Susie attended Guardian Angels Primary School and Star of the Sea College in Southport. She also holds a Bachelor of Business (Human Resources) and an Honours Degree in management for which she obtained First Class Honours (1A) from Griffith University also in Southport.
While studying and after completion, Susie worked as a head tutor, tutor and lecturer in the Griffith Business School across Nathan and Gold Coast campuses for several years after having worked as a fund raiser for The Institute for Glycomics for four (4) years prior to that. Susie is a dedicated lifelong learner so now also holds a Master of Educational Studies (Careers Counselling) as well as a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Queensland.
With wide ranging experience across a variety of different industries, Susie continues to work in event management on the Gold Coast and is also Managing Director of her own business, Own2Feet, a Disability Service Provider, based in Southport.
Family is everything to Susie. All of her tertiary qualifications were attained as a mature aged student WHILE she was raising her special needs daughter, caring for her mum, working to pay the mortgage and planning to build a business. She understands only too well what it is like to struggle. She used to work shifts during the day, coming home in between to prepare meals and spend time with her mum and daughter. Later at night, when they were asleep, she would often return to the university to mark papers through the night. She was grateful to have a job as she spent many years caring for her family on a pension. Her mum nursed her dad through his battle with cancer at home until his passing in 2003. Susie did the same for her mum having lost her to cancer in May 2020.
