President's Report - October 2021

“It is incredible to realise that we have been dealing with the consequences of the Covid -19 pandemic for over 18 months now. Uncertainty of rules, lockdowns, and movement restrictions etc have been the cause of the greatest economic impact on all sizes of businesses on the Gold Coast over that time. While I am usually an optimist, every time I think I see light at the end of the tunnel the tunnel seems to keep going on and on.

There has however been a distinct change of tone and direction by the Queensland State government, as they drive towards vaccination targets, which should see domestic and international borders progressively open up. For the sake of certainty for businesses there has to be an end to broad lockdowns and a commitment to keeping borders open. Your Chamber continues to be a regular voice of support for business on the Gold Coast and we will not let up as we move on to this next phase of dealing with the consequences of this pandemic.

Support your Chamber and join us for our end of 2021 Christmas Drinks on 18 November from 5.30 pm at the Southport Yacht Club for an evening of networking and an opportunity to meet and mingle with like minded business professionals, fellow Southport Chamber members and their guests. The General Manager of the Yacht Club , Brett James, is our special guest speaker, and will give us an update on the Superyacht Berth.

And finally – I encourage members to nominate suitable people to join the Board of the Southport Chamber and I encourage members to attend the 2021 AGM at 5 pm 18 November 2021 at the Boardroom Southport Yacht Club and vote for a Board to take the Southport Chamber into the next year of growth and opportunity for Southport."
