February 2021 - Presidents Report

A delicious breakfast was enjoyed by our members at Catalinas on the beautiful Southport Broadwater on 9 February.

Former Queensland Law Society President, and long term Southport Law practice owner, Bill Potts, gave an entertaining and informative speech about the need for a more complete Courts Complex in Southport, befitting of a city the size of the Gold Coast.

It would save lawyers, clients and witnesses time spent travelling to Brisbane for Federal Circuit Court and Supreme Court matters if those courts had a permanent presence in Southport. It would remove traffic from the M1 and increase employment in Southport.

A complex could include and be surrounded by all the services related to a complete Courts Complex such as solicitors’ offices barristers’ chambers and mediation rooms etc.

There was a call by the audience for a petition to state parliament and we will sponsor that petition.

I attended a CCIQ breakfast attended by several Gold Coast Chambers in which CCIQ talked through the results of the last quarter 2020 CCIQ Business Pulse Survey. You will find a link to the survey results on the News section of our website.

Look out for our next BAD night at Southport Sharks Cabana Bar on Thursday 11 March and also look out for a combined Chamber event later in March.
