SEQ Floods – Access Support from the Government
What wild weather we are having! I hope you and your family are staying safe (and dry) as South-east Queensland gets bombarded by all this rain. I thought I would touch base with you with some tips on staying safe, how to get help if you need it, and how to help out if you’re in a position to do so.

If you’re affected by flooding
The Queensland Government’s website contains plenty of information on support you can access if you’ve been affected by flooding over the last few days. You can access the information on the Disasters and Emergencies page at this link.
If your small business has been affected by the flooding, you may be entitled to assistance from the Federal Government, which includes 13 weeks of income support for small business owners, farmers and employees who have been impacted. You can find more information on the Services Australia website.
Staying safe
All schools across the Gold Coast are closed again today to ensure the safety of students and staff. Keep an eye on the news as this could be extended if required!
You should also avoid all non-essential travel on our roads. Some local roads have already been closed due to flooding, and you can find the most updated list at this link. Remember, if it’s flooded – forget it!
The Gold Coast City Council also maintains a disaster and emergency dashboard where residents can stay across impending disasters and emergencies and research issues that could affect them such as road closures, power outages and traffic signal outages. You can access it here!
How can you help?
If you’re in a position to help those in need, there’s a simple way to do so. In partnership with the Queensland Government, GIVIT is managing offers of donated goods, services, volunteering and funds, including corporate offers, in response to the widespread flooding across the state, all on one site! Visit their site here, where you can see exactly what’s needed and select to donate items, time or funds depending on how you can help.
As always, my office is always available if you or your family need support at this time. You can reach us via phone on 07 5600 1100 or email at southport@parliament.qld.gov.au.
Stay safe.
