Update from Cr Brooke Patterson

Throughout the CBD, many infrastructure and street works are being planned and undertaken. These works will play an important part in elevating our areas, building a sense of community through communal spaces we can all be proud of.

Nerang Street Mall upgrade – DESIGN FUNDED

In the last budget, I secured funding for the design works of the Nerang Street Mall upgrade.

Following the recent announcement of an upgrade to Australia Fair, Nerang Street is in the planning stages to receive an accompanying upgrade. This will be for the section between Scarborough Street and Marine Parade, paring with the new entry to Australia Fair on Nerang Street.

Project planning is underway, and it is anticipated that several workshops will be held with business leaders in Southport commencing October 2022 to develop the design.

Stevens Street upgrade – DESIGN FUNDED

The section of Stevens Street that meets with Gold Coast Highway has been highlighted as an area that could use some love. There is a lack of footpath network for pedestrians, making travel from nearby places difficult. A much-needed overhaul will visually enhance the precinct, and upgrade accessibility for both cars and pedestrians.

A concept design was completed during 2021, and a detailed cadastral survey has been requested to commence detailed design development.

Woodroffe Park proposal - FULLY FUNDED

Several parks across Division 6 have recently seen big upgrades, such as the Play Attraction in Broadwater Parklands and Bob Huth Park in Ashmore. Eyes are now turned towards Woodroffe Park in Southport.

The intent for this park is to improve capacity and functionality – adding open space for informal sport, lunch time activities, events, movies nights and other offerings that will improve community connection. This upgrade is currently in the design stage, with an expected completion in 2026.

Scarborough Street footpath upgrade - COMPLETED

Footpaths along Scarborough Street have received an updated look and upgrade. A stencilled treatment has been installed, and has a slick, clean look. In the next few months, this area will also be receiving 7 new planters and a new bin enclosure.
