State Member for Southport

Elected in 2012, Rob is the State Member for Southport and the Chief Opposition Whip in the Queensland Parliament. His previous public service includes roles as; • Assistant Minister for Child Safety • Assistant Minister for Planning & Development • Shadow Minister for Housing & Public Works. • Gold Coast City Councilor & Chair of Finance & Internal Services • Deputy Chair of Transportation, Public Works and Utilities committees.

Rob and his family grew up in Southport. They love the Gold Coast. He has four sons, and a granddaughter. They all love spending time at the beach, in the surf, at the footy and jet-skiing around the Broadwater.

Rob’s first job was packing bread roles at Gold Coast Bakeries.

He was a foundation student at Keebra Park State High School. He spent the first ten years of his working life at Woolies. Today he is accomplished executive with local and international experiences in small business and the corporate world.

Rob has been a broadcaster, store manager, retailer, barista and pizza maker. Prior to entering politics he was General Manager of Sea FM Limited, operating local radio stations 90.9 Sea Fm & 92.5 Gold FM.

Outside of work Rob has an extensive range of not-for-profit board experience. He was a founding director and investor in the Gold Coast NRL Titans (Bid Team), founding Chairman of the Gold Coast Community Fund and is today the longest serving director of Bravehearts the charity committed to protecting our kids from Child Sexual Abuse.

As the State Member for Southport his enduring goals include extension of the light and heavy rail networks from the airport to Helensvale, more public and affordable housing, revitalisation of CBD Southport, better health services, a fairer go for young people, more jobs, standing up in the war on drugs, less domestic and family violence and ensuring the Gold Coast is among the most welcoming and safest cities in the world.

Senator for Queensland - Shadow Minister for Northern Australia -Shadow Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management - Murray is a born and raised Queenslander, and was taught to believe that everyone deserves a good education and fair treatment in life.

He is currently serving as Labor's Shadow Minister for Northern Australia and Shadow Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management.

The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct is the 200 hectare innovation district located in Southport. The Precinct Office is a collaboration between the Queensland Government, City of Gold Coast, Griffith University and Gold Cost Health. The focus of the Precinct Office is to bring coordination across the Precinct, to raise the profile, investment attraction, strategic projects and governance.
