All current members are hereby notified that the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Southport Chamber of Commerce Inc will be held on Tuesday 12 December 2023 at 7:00am.

The meeting is to be held at Cohort Innovation Space with the Agenda notified to you prior to the meeting. The AGM will be followed by a light breakfast function, coffee and business networking. To RSVP click here

Current members play a crucial role in voting in the Southport Chamber of Commerce Board for the next 12 months.


Call for AGM Agenda Items

We ask that current members with relevant items of business for the AGM submit the items in writing to our Secretary at secretary@scoc.org.au by 5pm Monday 20 November 2023.

Call for Board Nominations

We are now calling for nominations to the 2024 Board of Management that will be voted upon at the AGM. According to our Constitution, in 2024 the following Board positions to be filled at the AGM, and the processes that are to be followed are:

Step 1 - Nominations

The Board of Management positions available are:

One President (1)
Three Vice Presidents (3)
One Secretary (1)
One Treasurer (1)
Four Committee Members (4)

Total Members of the Board of Management - 10

To nominate for the Board, candidates must have been a member of the association continuously for no less than the 9 months immediately prior to the date of nomination.

A correctly completed nomination form must be signed by two seconders (current members). Nomination forms can be return by post, email or hand and must reach our Secretary by 5pm Monday 20 November 2023.

A printed list of the candidates’ names, in alphabetical order, together with the proposers and seconders names will be posted at the office of the Southport Chamber of Commerce, located at Gold Coast Business Hub Kay House Level 2 – 35 Scarborough Street, Southport. This will also be posted on our website at scoc.org.au

Step 2 - Election

At the AGM, all current Board members including the President will stand down. Candidates will be read in alphabetical order for each position.

If there are more candidates than there are vacant positions, members will vote by a show of hands. Only current members can participate in the vote. Candidates with the most votes over 50% of the vote win the respective position.

At the commencement of the AGM should there be an insufficient number of candidates nominated to fill all positions; nominations may be taken from the floor of the meeting. In those circumstances those persons nominated must also receive 50% of the vote in order to be elected to the Board of Management.

Members who are not able to make the AGM in person can nominate a proxy to vote on their behalf. A Proxy form is attached. On this form, members can appoint a proxy for the meeting who may be the Chair of the meeting or another person. This form must be printed and shown in person at the AGM to count as a carried vote.
